A weekend in Herceg Novi does not have to be limited to the beach and a seaside walk. The town lies beneath Orjen, and the mountain hinterland is close enough to become the second part of the same trip. With two nights, visitors can discover the old town and coast, spend part of a day in Vrbanj and finish with local products and wine at Taverna Domestic.
Devote the first day to arrival and Herceg Novi. After checking in, walk through town, along the coast or around Meljine, depending on the accommodation. Do not try to see everything immediately. A weekend is more enjoyable when there is time for coffee, a view of the bay and an unhurried dinner. In the evening, check the Orjen weather forecast and confirm the next day’s reservation.
Start the second day relatively early, but do not turn the outing into a race. The road to Vrbanj moves from a Mediterranean town into a quieter hinterland. Carry water, wear closed shoes and bring layered clothing. Choose a short walk or activity that suits everyone. Orjen Nature Park has many marked routes, but a weekend visitor does not need the most demanding trail to feel the mountain.
After time outdoors, allow enough time for Taverna Domestic. A tasting board may include prosciutto, pečenica, dry-cured pork neck and homemade sausage, depending on current availability. A special moment is homemade red wine flowing through the stone rock and served at the rock’s natural temperature. Families and groups should agree the serving format in advance.
Return to the coast in the late afternoon. There will still be time to rest in the apartment or take another evening walk by the sea. Guests staying longer can choose a different section of the Riviera, a longer trail or another trip into the hinterland on the third day. Those leaving can enjoy a simple ending: breakfast, check-out and departure without an overloaded schedule.
The choice of accommodation depends on group size and travel style. Belle Vue 5 is a one-room apartment, Belle Vue 7 has its own gallery and features, a larger apartment is available in Meljine, and the Orjen property brings guests closer to the mountain environment. Dates, capacity, location and conditions should be confirmed before booking rather than inferred from a single image.
The greatest value of this weekend is contrast. In a short time, the smell of the sea changes to forest, town steps to a mountain road, and a coastal walk to a stone table. Plan only a few key elements, reserve them in advance and leave room for rest. Herceg Novi and Orjen will then feel less like separate destinations and more like one complete journey.
